  • What Is Handling? Its Role in Warehouse Operations
February 01, 2026

Handling is a logistics activity that encompasses all processes of physically processing, inspecting and managing goods stored in warehouses. Handling operations defined in customs legislation include operations such as seal opening, counting, weighing, measuring, sampling, packaging, labeling, splitting, combining and restacking.

Handling plays a critical role in the efficient execution of warehouse operations. Handling operations performed with the right equipment and experienced personnel prevent damage to goods, accelerate customs processes and reduce operational costs.

Handling Processes in the Warehouse

When goods are received at the warehouse, seal inspection and opening are first performed. Then, unloading from the container or vehicle, counting and physical condition assessment are carried out. Goods are placed on shelving systems or designated storage areas. During the shipping phase, picking, packaging and vehicle loading operations are meticulously executed.
