  • What Is a Free Warehouse? What Are Its Advantages?
January 15, 2026

A free warehouse is a specially designated facility established with a license from the Ministry of Trade, which, while being part of Turkey's Customs Territory, allows goods not in free circulation to be stored indefinitely. Unlike bonded warehouses, there is no time limit for goods in free warehouses, which provides a significant advantage especially for companies planning long-term inventory.

As TK Tuzla Warehouse, in addition to our Type-A bonded warehouse service, we also operate with our Ministry of Trade-approved free warehouse operating license. Our total free warehouse area of 31,523 m² offers both indoor and outdoor storage facilities.

Advantages of Free Warehouse for Businesses

In free warehouses, goods can be stored without being subject to customs duties and trade policy measures. Importers can defer tax payments by releasing their goods into free circulation when needed. Additionally, handling, packaging, labeling and simple processing activities can be carried out on goods in the free warehouse.

Differences Between Bonded Warehouse and Free Warehouse

While the duration of stay in a bonded warehouse is subject to certain rules, there is no such restriction in a free warehouse. Bonded warehouses are directly under the supervision of customs administration, while free warehouses are subject to Ministry of Trade authorization. Both models offer different advantages to businesses engaged in foreign trade; making the right choice is critically important for operational efficiency and cost optimization.
